Continuing my Union County Big Year birding today, I visited Keckley Park and the Marysville Reservoir. I found a couple of old owl pellets at Keckley but no owls. The highlights were a pair of Eastern Towhees and a Northern Mockingbird. I then traveled to the Marysville Reservoir, where I found a lot of fog but also a WHITE-WINGED SCOTER and a dozen Canvasbacks, plus some other waterfowl (Greater Scaup, Red-breasted Merganser, geese, etc.). This brings my Union County Big Year list up to 59 species (still a little ways from my goal of 200, but a good start). I posted a foggy picture of the scoter at my Big Year webpage: http://blakemathys.com/BigYear2014.html Also there is an entertaining picture of my frozen face from birding on the 6th (when it was below 0).
