On August 26 Kelly Koslowski spotted a tern that looked very much like a Royal Tern - significant white forehead and orange bill. It was mixed in with Caspian Terns and Ring-billed Gulls near the big island just off the boat house. The kayakers and boaters scared off the terns and we searched until dark without finding it again. We have been looking for it ever since. Today I spotted the bird and got some iPhone4 pictures through my spotting scope (https://www.flickr.com/photos/85567104@N05/) - same significant white forehead and orange bill when compared to Caspian's standing nearby. I posted two other pictures showing Royal Terns in California and at Hilton Head for comparison. I did not get a good look at its wings when boaters scared them off again. This looks pretty good but I would like the opinions of anyone who really knows Terns. We referenced Sibley and Crosley guides and the bird is a good match for Royal.
