Conditions vary each day with wind direction and temperature, as ice shelves and coverage shifts throughout the day. But gull numbers are finally spiking in the Cleveland area, particularly between Edgewater, Wendy Park and East 9th street. This evening, no less then 11,000 individuals filled a 360 view from Wendy Park, with many far, far offshore but others clustering in the harbor and along the river. Multiple Glaucous and Iceland Gulls were found today between Edgewater, Wendy Park, and Shooters on the River club just south of the mouth. A few Lesser Black-backed are around and Great Black-backed numbers are building. Remaining congregations of Bonaparte's Gulls have cleared out ahead of the front and freeze-up. Merganser numbers (both species) have re-spiked as birds are clustering in open water slivers and moving back and forth along shore. Marinas are mostly locked up with ice and almost bird-less.
