At http://birding.aba.org/message.php?mesid=1359153&MLID=CT01&MLNM=Connecticut%20Birds is some information about what the eastern gurus tell us is an invasion of red crossbills of great magnitude. I sure haven't heard much about Ohio crossbills recently, but things are only beginning. I can recall an invasion a few years back when on a warmish day my wife and I sat on chairs on the back deck, which is partly shaded by a big hemlock, and fed these little beggars from the hand. They were obviously from a place where we seemed no dangerous than reindeer. The gurus predict as many or more this winter, so peel an eye.
