I set out the caged feeder that I bought to discourage English sparrows from taking all the peanuts in the old coated wire peanut feeder this morning in 4-5 inches of snow. It hangs on a shepherd hook with a small sunflower feeder. Chickadees were the first to get the peanuts out then Titmice and surprisingly slowly White-breasted Nuthatches. so far only 1 female English sparrow has figured out how to get thru the cage to get a peanut. More surprisingly about 12 male Redwing Blackbirds flew in this morning after the sunflower seeds. then 1 perched on the cage wire, reached in and got a peanut. Like it had done it before - smart birds. Carole Babyak Trumbull Co.
