Most of the early migrants were much in evidence at these 2 Hocking Hills sites this morning before the rain hit. We started at Conkles, then moved to the lower valley of Clear Creek (mostly along the Creekside Trail). Highlights included: Blue-headed Vireos - 4-5 singing at Conkle's, 1-2 at ClearCreek Swallows - small #s of Rough-wings & Trees at both spots BrownThrashers - one at each HermitThrushes - 8+ at Conkle's, mostly along the Rim Trail Golden-cr.Kinglets - widespread, but nowhere common Blue-GrayGnatcatchers - 3-4 at each spot Warblers - 7 species at Conkles, 5 at Clear Creek, including Black&Whites, Black-thr.Greens, Yellow-throated, Yellow-rumped, Pines, Ovenbird (1 @ Conkles), La.Waterthrushes Sparrows - not much besides some White-throats and Songs; 1 Junco @Conkles Finches - 2 singing Pine Siskins at Conkles, 1 at Clear Creek Wildflowers were quite delayed, with early Spring stuff (Hepaticas, Spring Beauties) dominant at Conkles Hollow. The lower area of Clear Creek suffered significant flood scour from the March rainstorms, so stuff there is also quite delayed, except above the flooding zone. ______________________________________________________________________ Ohio-birds mailing list, a service of the Ohio Ornithological Society.
