I had a Long-eared owl at Springville Marsh just north of Carey in Seneca County. If you have been there for banding it was in the location of net 2 (on the right). This has always been a spot they seem to like. I have never had them flush before at this location. This individual flew a short distance and then flew off further. I have had an interesting week of sightings. Saturday I had 40 flyover Sandhill cranes above the high school in Carey and then seconds later a single Turkey vulture. On the way home, just south of Carey I had a group of 3 Nuthatches, one of which was a Red-breasted nuthatch (I did not get a good enough look at the other two). Have a safe Thanksgiving to the birding world! Hope everyone gets a (Wild) Turkey. Remember, some locations are doing Ringed-necked pheasant releases on Thursday and the deer seasons are underway (gun season next week). As an aside, the Carey Christmas Count will be December 31. Veterans, I will contact you soon and I hope you all can participate. We will likely cover our regular territories. McDonald's is closed to inside dining so no meeting before or after likely (On top of this thing called Covid 19, if you haven't heard of it). Others who are interested, contact me. I will be creating areas closer to the day of the count. Individual and small teams of your own are welcome. We tend to have small numbers and are stretched thin. Cutting some areas in half would mean better coverage. Thanks in advance!
