************** * New Kermit * ************** MCIS will be changing the version of Kermit in use on MIAVX1 on Monday, January 10, 1994. This new version of Kermit contains many new fetaures. Among these new features are: * support for larger packet sizes * support for sliding windows * support for data compression * scriptability * TCP/IP support The first three features should speed data transfers when the appropriate client software is used. MCIS is currently testing new client software that will take advantage of these new features. Users of the current version of Kermit should be aware of one change to the Kermit command structure. The command: SET FILE TYPE FIXED was used to transfer binary files on the old versino of Kermit. On the new version of Kermit, this command is: SET FILE TYPE BINARY. This is more consistent with other versions of Kermit (including the version on VM). -- Kent Covert, Software Coordinator Miami Computing and Information Services Miami University, Oxford, OH [log in to unmask] (internet) kacovert@miavx1 (bitnet)
