In regard to the history of inebriate institutions, Baumohl and Room's
piece in what I believe is vol. 8 or 9 of Marc Galanter, ed. Recent
Developments in Alcoholism, is in itself excellent, and has a very good
bibliography....in my reading, this subject raises far more questions
than it provides answers, especially about why certain types of organizations
seemed to vanish practically overnight....thus a seemingly good topic for
a student seeking a challenge.
