Dear List, Possibly the second of our real messages. We have experimented with scanning over the last two years, initially with relative success. That is scanning and editing, using search and replace functions [WordPerfect] achieved results at about 50% of retyping. However, at last attempt we found our available technlogy [OMNISCANN] no longer communicates with any PC based equipment, unless run through an early Word for Mac [Version 4.0 preferably], something I only learnt after some time in the local with the University's IT people. Techno creap has caused problems in our area... However this is to note that with about ten linear metres of finding aids, we too would like a satisfactory mechanism of transfering to digital. Scanning is promising, but as the list has noted problematic. Yours, Leigh Swancott, Melbourn University Archives
