Solon (VA) Council No. 50, Mss.MsV Mi7; (2) minute book, 1849-1854 of Sons of Temperance of North America. Vira. Madison Division (Augusta Co.), Mss.MsV Mi18; (3) same group, but Mossy Creek Division, minute book, 1851-1861, Mss MsV Mi17; and (4) minute book, 1838, of the Noswango Temperance Society, Mss MsV Mi13. The Friends of Temperance, organized shortly after the Civil War, was active in Virginia, North Carolina, and some other parts of the South. It is a different organization from the one called the United Friends of Temperance. David M.
