Hi everybody. The list has been quiet, and I thought I'd pose a question that has me perplexed. Here is a sentence my students and I were working on in our English 111 (Composition class): The term "chivalry" comes from "chevalier" meaning "knight" and is related to "cheval" meaning "horse." Question: __The term "chivalry"__ is the noun phrase subject. Since the definite article is linked to "term," it would appear that "term" is the noun/head. But if so, how do I classify "chivalry"? For some reason this sentence causes me trouble. I want to attribute more importance to "chivalry." Jim Dubinsky Miami University, Hamilton "If the world ended today, I would adjust"--John Gorka
