The Northeastern Ohio Universities College of Medicine seeks a person to
fill the position of Archivist, Special Collections Librarian.  This
faculty position reports to the Director and Chief Medical Librarian of
the Oliver Ocasek Regional Medical Information Center.
 
The chief duties of the position are to manage the Archives of the
College, develop the Special Collections (including the history of
medicine museum collection), and cooperate with the College's Records
Retention and Control Committee in administering the records management
program.  There are additional duties and opportunities for service in the

The Northeastern Ohio Universities College of Medicine (NEOUCOM) is a
community-based, state medical school which offers a combined BS/MD
degree through consortium arrangements with The University of Akron, Kent
State University and Youngstown State University.  NEOUCOM is also
associated with 18 community hospitals, eight of which are teaching
hospitals for NEOUCOM students.  The mission of NEOUCOM is to graduate
qualified physicians oriented to the practice of medicine at the community
level, with an emphasis on primary care: family medicine, internal
medicine, pediatrics and obstetrics/gynecology.
 
The Oliver Ocasek Regional Medical Information Center, with more than
90,000 bound volumes and 1,000 current serial subscriptions, provides
regional medical library services to a 17 county area.  It has a staff of
20.2 permanent FTE, including 9.5 librarians.  It is a member of OhioLINK,
Ohio's statewide library network.
 
The NEOUCOM campus is located 50 miles south of Cleveland, OH.  The site
for the campus, in Rootstown, OH, was selected because of its location in
the center of the consortium.  The campus includes several connected
buildings.  The academic support facility houses the conference center,
the Oliver Ocasek Regional Medical Information Center, cafeteria,
bookstore, exercise room and administrative offices.
 
QUALIFICATIONS: Master's Degree in Library Science from an American
Library Association accredited school, or Master's Degree in archives,
history, or related field.  Courses in computing highly desirable.
Minimum three years experience in archives or special collections.
Experience with microcomputers and integrated library systems.  Knowledge
of OCLC, NLM classification, and MeSH desirable.
 
PREFERRED:  Knowledge of the World Wide Web, Hypertext Markup Language
(HTML) and the creation of homepages; public service and medical and/or
academic library experience; Medical Library Association's Academy of
Health Information Professionals or Academy of Certified Archivists
certification/eligibility.  Supervisory experience desirable.
 
SALARY:      $35,000.00 per year
