Will there be an ATHG breakfast or other get-together at the meeting
of the Organization of American Historians in San Francisco, 17-20
April?

I have gone through the fat program systematically but can report a
few papers relevant to the work of the ATHG. (1) Katherine A.
Chavigny (University of Chicago) will deliver a paper, "Reformed
Drunkards' Narratives: Indivduals, Institutions, and the Politics of
Experience in Nineteenth-Century America." (2) Rumi Yasutake (UCLA),
"Female Authority and Women's Transnational Activism: The Woman's
Christian Temperance Union." (3) Sarah Whitney Tracy (Rutgers
Institute for Health Care Policy and Aging Research), "Re-Educating
the Inebriate: Therapeutic and Civic Ideals in the Institutional
Reform of Alcoholics, 1890-1920."
