Alcopops are soft drinks e.g. lemonade with added alcohol and are marketed under catchy names such as "Two dogs". There is a wide range of flavours and all are marketed so that they appear to appeal to underage drinkers. (18 in the UK). The manufactures claim they are aimed at the early 20s market. There has been much debate about these cheap alcoholic drinks, the latest of which are milk shake flavoured. The lemonade ones orginally came from Australia. They are now a substantial slice of the alcohol market, with much debate as to who purchases such drinks. This together with an increase in drunkenness amongst underage drinks has caused concern. The previous government merely supported the drinks industry right to market for the 20s age group. The Portland Group (an industry based group) merely reiterated their claim to me aiming at the 20s market. Margaret Barrow Margaret Barrow Joule Library UMIST, P.O.
