I am currently working on a second ed. of THE SILVER BULLET: THE MARTINI IN AMERICAN CIVILIZATION (Greenwood, 1981), to be published by Johns Hopkins University Press. I'd be most grateful for any pre-1910 references to the Martini in any kind of source. (The 1880s is the probable decade of origin.) In particular, I would like to locate copies of the bartender's manuals at the end of this message. I am not trying to buy them but would like to be able to borrow them froma library or consult them if they are in the hands of a private owner. Thank you. Lowell Edmunds. Rutgers University Casey, E.
