In the 1980s there was a superb historical film in French (with the English
title, Sugar Cane Alley) about an outlying island in the colony of
Martinque ca. 1930. In addition to standard rum drinking by
povertystricken sugar cane workers, there was a scene in which village
children got drunk and accidentally started a destructive fire while their
parents were working in the fields.
