Hello, all --

I just learned an interesting little fact, and thought I'd send it to the
list for lack of any better repository. The source of the fact is Knox's
great grandson, writer David Graham.

Here it is. Rose Knox, of Knox Gelatin, "a formidible Victorian woman who
was locally famous for her teetotalling ways," printed DYCBYC on dinner
invitations. It stood for "Drink Your Cocktail Before You Come."

A little more on Knox and her teetotaling ways --

"Though she died 3 years before I was born, Rose Knox was a vivid presence
in my life as I grew up. She also did not allow married couples to sleep
in the same bed when they visited her, and frowned on beds being used for
anything but sleeping, in fact. One did not sit on a bed, for example, or
read while reclining."
