Zach, I'm planning to go to Manchester on the 4th or 5th and staying until the 6th or 7th. AAfter that, I'm not exactly sure -- perhaps London or Whales to visit friends. I'm checking on ferry and coach tickets today, so I'll keep you posted begin' (that's Scottish for dude). Oh yes -- to answer your question -- I'll be teaching two sections next fall of a required course for all incoming freshman. It's kind of similar to a Western civ course only more intensive. In general, the course (which is Called Paideia, meaning education in Greek) is taught by about ten proffessors from the history and English departments. Focussing on rhetoric and composition, the class begins first semester with Homer and the Odyssey and ends second semester with modern literary and historical figures such as Ibsen and Martin Luther King Jr. It is a challenging course for first-years because of the volume and difficulty of some of the texts. In addition to this course, I'll have the opportunity second semester to teach two additional European history courses which I'll choose a bit later in the summer. One course, I've been garrenteed, will be a special topic course on European history, and I believe I'll pick Revolution and Rebelion in Modern Ireland. Finally, I'll have to teach a four-week January term course, and I have no idea at this point what that might be.
