I am a high school English teacher and a graduate student here at the
University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. I am doing some research on
comparatives in English and would like any references regarding these
aspects:
        1)  the historical development of the comparative in English
        2)  any evidence to indicate that the paraphrastic forms are being
used more often in instances of single syllable
adjectives where earlier the -er was might have been preferred. Ex. Ms.
Jones is more strict than Mr. Richards.
 
Also, when I get my survey in place, can I count on the members of ATEG
