This was going to be my Northern Reservoirs
report as I also took in Willard, New London,
and Wellington the day before but those figures
are in a different notebook (nothing unusual;
a good number of RBMergs from New London
and good scaup numbers from Willard).
Thur. morning 8:00 am along Rt. 224 just out
of Tiffin(at TR 25), 4 Great Egrets beating NE
into a brisk wind seemed odd.
Fostoria Reservoirs rarely amount to much for me,
and this day was no different. Combined tally for
Lake LeComte and Veteran's Memorial ...
Mute Swan - 1
Lesser Scaup - 47
Bufflehead - 13
Red-breasted Merganser - 77
Bonaparte's Gull - 21
still I like to cover them when visiting Findlay
as they help me put the latter numbers into
context.
Findlay Reservoirs 1&2
American Wigeon - 4
Lesser Scaup - 85
Bufflehead - 30
Red-breasted Merganser - 560
Ruddy Duck - 14
Pied-billed Grebe - 1
Horned Grebe - 11
Common Loon - 27
Bald Eagle - 1 immature
American Coot - 3
Killdeer - 2
Bonaparte's Gull - 750
Ring-billed Gull - 150
Herring Gull - 15
later headed down to southern OH
stopped on Rt 104 in Franklin Co.
to watch a pair of Cooper's Hawk
in courtship flight (near the SW Compost plant)
only to have a Gray Catbird pop up in the fence
row next to the car.
cheers
Vic Fazio
