This morning Bob Powell and I checked some favorite parts of Cowan Lake State Park. Lotus Trail was especially good. The mudflats at the end of the trail look just about perfect and there we saw:
8 Lesser Yellowlegs
3 Greater Yellowlegs
5 Spotted Sandpipers
1 Solitary Sandpiper
1 Pectoral Sandpiper
1 Least Sandpiper
3 Blue-winged Teal
2 Green-winged Teal
6 Mallards
2 Canada Geese with 2 Goslings - two more with young at East End of Cowan
1 Prothonotary Warbler - on territory
3 Rough-winged Swallows
1 Barn Swallow
Along the trail were:
3 American Redstart - they nest there
1 Yellow Warbler
1 Yellow-throated Warbler
2 Wood Thrush
2 Black-throated Green Warbler
3 Red-eyed Vireo
1 White-eyed Vireo
1 Northern Parula Warbler
3 House Wren
At the beach:
2 Red-breasted Mergansers
At East end of Lake:
4 Great Egrets
83 Ring-billed Gulls
2 Great Blue Heron
The Red-shoulderd Hawk was not calling and we missed a Catbird or, amazingly, Killdeer.
Great Day Cheers, Larry Gara
