Sean Williams, Jed Burtt and I birded Kildeer Plains Wildlife Area (Wyandot Co.) this morning. Sean and I continued to Alum Creek and Hoover Reservoir (Delaware Co.).
There is very little shorebird habitat at Kildeer. Pond 27 and the wetlands near the sportsman's center are both full of water. Alum Creek was the most productive for shorebirds.
Some of the birds seen were:
Killdeer Plains:
2 Black Terns (Pond 27)
7 Red-headed Woodpecker
Alum Creek - Hogback Rd:
150+ Killdeer
6 Greater Yellowlegs
25 Lesser Yellowlegs
3 Spotted Sandpiper
17 Pectoral Sandpiper
1 Baird's Sandpiper
20 Semipalmated Sandpiper
6 Least Sandpiper
1 Short-billed Dowitcher
1 Wilson's Snipe
Hoover Reservoir boardwalk:
1 Little Blue Heron
7 Blue-winged Teal
3 Northern Shoveler
8 Semipalmated Plover
14 Lesser Yellowlegs
1 Spotted Sandpiper
1 Semipalmated Sandpiper
Delaware Wildlife Area - Leonardsburg Rd:
