Greetings---an excellent day at Mosquito L/WA today. Highlights: 1000 Canada geese, 7 tundra swans, 3 mute swans (yuk), 350 mallards, only 15 Am. black ducks, 75 lesser scaup, 100 common goldeneyes, 100 hooded mergansers, 10 common mergansers, 200 Am. coots, 10 Bonaparte's gulls, ring-billed and herring gulls, 3 ring-necked pheasants (2 hens), 6 bald eagles, red-tailed hawk, Am. kestrel, short-eared owl (at the causeway), 20 Am. tree sparrows. All water north of the causeway is pretty much frozen up. Around Lowellville the last couple days: 13 wild turkeys, red-shouldered hawks, great blue heron, 20 cedar waxwings. No song sparrows at the feeders, and still no visit from an accipiter. Too many house sparrows, house finches and even a few starlings and cowbirds (uncommon in my back yard) are hogging the feed. No sign of red-breasted nuthatches for weeks now. Later, Craig
