Hi all,
My wife and I had a very productive afternoon at Pickerington Ponds on Sunday. Waterfowl seen:
Pied-billed Grebe - A few at all areas
Canada Geese
Mallards
Hooded Mergansers - Many at all areas
N. Shoveller - 2 at Wright Road
Redhead - 2 On west side of Bowen Rd
Lesser Scaup - South pond on Bowen Rd
Buffleheads - 11 Ditto
American Wigeon - 2 Ditto
Blue-winged Teal
Black Ducks - Many
Wood Duck - 3
Ring-necked Ducks - Many at all areas
Approximately 12 nests are being used at the Great Blue Heron rookery at Wright and Bowen roads.
Raptors seen:
Kestrels
Red-tailed Hawk
Harriers - 2
Osprey - 2
Killdeer - 1
Tree Swallows - many
Song Sparrow
Tree Sparrow
White-throated Sparrow
White-crowned Sparrow
Towhee - 1 Male
Great-horned Owl - 2 Adult with large Owlet at Brice Rd at Blacklick Creek
And the bird of the day:
The world's most cooperative Golden-crowned Kinglet, showing off his Golden crown in the afternoon sunlight at very close range.
