As expected, with the bad weather this weekend, there was plenty of action
at my feeders. On Saturday, I had a flock of 19 (all males) Red-winged
Blackbirds. They flew in, gulped down some cracked corn, and left. I also
counted 9 Fox Sparrows at one time. My previous high last March was 6.
On Sunday morning, I was thrilled to finally have a Pine Warbler. It checked
out 2 of the feeders and then flew to the ground and picked around a bit.
Not sure exactly what it was eating. Also on my morning walk with the dogs,
I had good looks at a Ruffed Grouse that was reluctant to fly until one of
my dogs finally flushed it.
The dawn chorus is getting stronger by the day....
