The discussions that arose over the recent Stint sighting sent me back to
the front of my bird guides (I think Kenn Kaufman suggested this) to study
the structure and feather patterns of shorebirds more closely. This was
really helpful! It made identification a little easier yesterday at
Conneaut although lots of birding (practice) is needed to get as good as our
Varsity birders.
I took a few decent pictures yesterday and posted them at
http://picasaweb.google.com/mvalencic/ConneautShorebirds#. Some of them
show bills, feet and feather patterns pretty well. I only zoomed-in on the
pictures - no changes in brightness or contrast.
I would appreciate feedback from any Varsity birders regarding my I.D.'s of
the Semipalmated Sandpipers and Sanderlings. I want to get better at these
birds as the season progresses.
