I've been observing what appear to be Eared Grebes at Watermark for 4
consecutive days. This is based on the winter plumage with smudging on the
cheek and overall shape of the birds. I'm having trouble getting close
enough for photographs but have clear views from scope. Also seen in
vincinity of the island were
red breasted mergansers mald and female,
bufflehead,
and several mallards and canada geese.
song sparrows 2
red winged blackbirds 8
Heard a purple finch near apartments.
I'll try to post some photos soon.
I would appreciate any comments to help ID these grebes as Eared vs Horned
Grebes look very similar in winter plumage.
