I tried to get a picture but only had my cellphone camera which is pretty bad. I'm trying to find pictures on the internet without luck. Does anyone know if this is maybe a young mountain chickadee or something else? It was located near the old amphitheater behind the Rocky River Nature Center where the trail has a four way intersection. [...]40_26Oct201012:40: [log in to unmask] |

There seem to be quite a few Purple Finches around this fall. Julie West
banded four last Friday at the Nature Center at Shaker Lakes, and I had
one show up at my feeder in Cleveland Heights yard today, which was a
new yard bird for me. I also had White-throated and White-crowned
Sparrows, a Dark-eyed Junco, Tufted Titmouse, Black-capped Chickadee
(one of the invasion, no doubt), White-breased Nuthatch, Downy
Woodpecker, Red-bellied Woodpecker, Blue Jay, and Mourning Dove all
stopping by for a nosh.
Photos of the finch are on my Flickr page at

There are also some photos of the other birds that were around this
afternoon, with some House Finches to compare to the Purple Finch. One
of the male House Finches that was also hanging around was so sharp that
I kept trying to turn him into a Purple Finch as well, but I believe I
only saw the one bird.
