Cindy Host and I visited The Wilds yesterday. Besides the singing of
the Spring Peppers and Chorus frogs there was a good section of birds. We
were following a male Harrier and spotted a large raptor in a tree along a
tree line. The raptor went after the Harriwer. It was the Golden Eagle.
After the Harrier left the area, the Golden Eagle ascended to a great
height. The Golden Eagle suddenly drove and appeared to be chasing an E
Meadowlark. The Meadowlark veered off to the left and escaped from the
Eagle. Around 2:30 a Short-eared Owl flew over our head It was so close it
was too close to get the whole bird in a binocular view. Around 7:10 we
spotted a Short-eared owl on a fence post. When we got out of the car we
heard a Woodcock on the hilltop. We went up there and could not find the
Woodcock, but we had 9 Short-eared Owls flying around us. Below is a list
of some of the birds seen at The Wilds yesterday(March 11th)

Ring-necked Ducks-85+
Red-tailed Hawks-6
Mallards-9
Short-eared Owls-10
Redhead Ducks-10
Lesser Scaup-male, female
Song Sparrows-10
Pied-billed Grebe
E Bluebird- 3 males, 2 females
Harrier- 2 males, 2 females
Golden Eagle-1- 3:35pm-Provty Rd
Rough-legged Hawk-4
Killdeer-1
Belted Kingfisher
C. Grackle-70+
Red-winged Blackbird-25+
A Tree Sparrow-8
Pileated Woodpecker
Woodcock
