About at 1 pm today I saw a young bald eagle fly up from the Creek with a
large fish. I missed the actual strike. But, it was very close to Dunham
Road just upstream from the bridge. The creek is very shallow right now; so,
it must have been easy for the eagle to see the fish.
I was parked along the Creek; so, after the eagle gained some height I got a
good look at it. The large bird was mostly brown with some white on its
tail. It flew up into the trees on Dunham Road hill followed by a
ring-billed gull. I only saw the general area where it perched.
It had just started to rain when I saw the eagle. I did what any reasonable
person would do: I got out of my car, zipped up my rain jacket and walked
across the Dunham Road bridge with my binoculars hoping to get another look
at the eagle (while maintaining a respectable distance, of course). I did
not locate the bird. Some turkey vultures soaring above narrowed their
circling to that area.
I have seen bald eagles along Tinkers Creek from time to time. People on the
local Metroparks' birdwalks also report them. I have seen them flying as far
up creek as the Egbert Road picnic area. I have also seen them perched in
trees near Lost Meadows picnic area.
