The past 2 days, I've shaved off some time to visit this north Columbus/Westerville MetroPark hoping for third wave migrants. Not much there, as the numbers of migrants have nosedived locally over the past few days. Lotys of interesting residents, though, to help make up the slack. Notables included:
Wild Turkeys - 2-3 bold young individuals at several spots along the roads and trails
Hummingbirds - 3-4, mostly near flowering bushes
Flycatchers - still fair #s, with Pewees and Acadians along both the Spring Creek Trail and Thomas Trail, along with several Great Cresteds at both sites. Willow Flycatchers were in the meadows, and E.Kingbirds & Phoebes were around Shrock Lake.
Vireos - 1 White-eyed was singing near the Spring Creek Trail. 3 Warbling Vireos were around Shrock Lake, but Red-eyeds were much more common in the forest areas
Thrushes - little other than a few singing Wood Thrushes in the forest areas
Warblers - nothing but resident Yellows and Common Yellowthroats
Tanagers - single Scarlets were singing along the Spring Creek Trails and the Thomas Trail
Grosbeaks,Buntings - none of the former, but a surge of 10-12 of the latter, singing along the forest edge areas
Orioles - an adult Baltimore and a young male Orchard were singing in different areas along the shore of Shrock Lake
