Six Short-eared Owls put on a great display at Lorain Cty. Airport today
(1/1/14) - either side of 5 p.m. Either in constant flight low and high,
or perching on the perimeter fence along Russia Rd. There is a substantial
pull-off on the airport side (north) of Russia Rd. - east of Oberlin Rd.
and west of the airport entrance road that
approximates the area of greatest activity and is safe to pull off the
highway.
A single light-morph Rough-legged Hawk was also seen here.
Wellington Reservoir was nearly completely frozen over - not much variety
of waterfowl there today. Mixed flocks of Horned Larks & Snow Buntings
were found on West Rd. and on Quarry Rd.
