Stopped by Chatterton wetlands and neighboring Pickerington Ponds late this
morning, and found quite a few late temperate migrants. Water levels are
very low at Chatterton, and moderately low at Pick Ponds (Teal Pond still
full, but Mallard Marsh mostly dry). Notables included:
Shorebirds - Pick Ponds had Killdeer, Lesser Yellowlegs, Pectoral
Sandpiper, Semipalmated sandpipers, and several peep that were in just too
bad a light to ID
Ducks - flocks of Green-winged Teal and N.Shovelers at Teal Pond, along
with a few Mallards & Gadwall. Ellis Pond had a few Ruddy Ducks.
OtherWaterfowl - Ellis Pond had 16 cormorants, while 10 Coot & 1
Pied-billed Grebe were at Teal Pond.
E.Phoebe - single birds were at Chatterton wetland and the Wood Duck picnic
area at Pick Ponds
Cedar Waxwings - small groups in many locations
Purple Finch - a single bird was singing near the Chatterton wetland
Sparrows - Pick Ponds had Swamp and White-crowns, along with the expected
Songs & White-throats. Chatterton pitched in a Fox Sparrow and more
White-throats.
Blackbirds - Pick Ponds had a few Red-wings, while Chatterton had a flock
of 4 Rusty Blackbirds
