I'm happy to announce the availability of a new tool on Miami's
DEC OpenVMS system (MiaVX1): WWWSetUp.
MCIS Technical Support (in the person of Kent Covert) has developed
a tool which helps members of the Miami University community easily create
their own Home Page on the World Wide Web (WWW). WWWSetUp automatically
(a) creates a WWW subdirectory in your MiaVX1 account, (b) sets the
necessary file protections for your WWW subdirectory and your account
directory to allow WWW access, and (c) creates a sample HyperText Markup
Language (HTML) file which constitutes your personal WWW Home Page. This
file, named INDEX.HTML, can be easily edited on MiaVX1 by simply typing
EDIT [.WWW]INDEX.HTML
at the MiaVX1 command line prompt (usually $). Your personal WWW Home
Page can then be accessed using this Uniform Resource Locator (URL):
http://MiaVX1.MUOhio.Edu/~userid/
(where ~userid is a tilde followed by your MiaVX1 account userid).
For example, http://MiaVX1.MUOhio.Edu/~HarlanJB/
To use this tool, simply type
WWWSETUP
at the MiaVX1 command line prompt (usually $). If you have questions or
need assistance, please contact the MCIS Help Desk (by e-mail at
[log in to unmask] or by phone at 529-7900) and request that your call
be routed to CWIS.
Many thanks to MCIS Technical Support (specifically, Kent) for
developing this extremely convenient tool for the Miami community.
