Yes, elm would definately be a step backwards.
To access pine on the VMS system, type pine at the $ prompt. It is
compatible with your current mail folders and will set up any additional
files needed at startup. Once in it, press c to compose/send a message.
To view mail, hit l to see the list of the folders. To exit, press q.
All options should appear at the bottem of the screen. If you need any
additional help, feel free to ask :)
