The Digital OpenVMS cluster in Oxford (MiaVX1) experienced some difficulties
earlier this morning, which appear to be resolved but are still being
investigated. The development component of the MiaVX1 cluster, Lagoon, was
temporarily out of service for relocation within Hoyt Hall this morning. Its
very brief absence from the cluster had unanticipated side effects:

     * Outbound e-mail ( SEND, REPLY, FORWARD ) ceased functioning
briefly after the inbound Simple Mail Transport Protocol
        (SMTP) process became locked.

This manifested itself as mail locking up when a user pressed
the Control Z key sequence to exit the mail editor.

Mail in the process of being sent when this incident occurred
appears to have been successfully transmitted after Lagoon was
        restarted.

     * VAXShare ceased functioning briefly due to the unavailability
        of certain resources on Lagoon.

VAXShare had to be stopped and restarted following this incident,
but appears to be functioning normally again.

Miami Computing & Information Services (MCIS) regrets any inconvenience this
brief incident may have caused its clients, and is taking appropriate measures
to avoid a recurrence.
