Joy. This hasn't happened in awhile, but then I > haven't tried connecting with extras in a while. > > The 9600 lines work fine with compression & error correction, > though. > > -- > Steve Madsen > [log in to unmask] -- I have the EXACT same problem. The modems worked fine previously except that I would get a CRC error approximately every 30 packets when doing Z-Modem Downloads from the vax. I can sit and watch my CPS indicator and when it hits 1600 . . . CRC error. It then continues for 30 or so more packets and the same thing happens. Please don't tell me I have flow-control problems or it is my modem settings . . . I have called probably a 100 sites with no connection problems whatsoever (US Robotics Sport. Modem) and regularly get CPS rates of 1800+ running in a WIN/OS2 session with Crosstalk for Windows (while doing other work). As of today, I have the same experience that Steve has outlined above. If I do manage to get a connection, the CRC problem remains. When the connection problem started I thought the problem was on my end and systematically changed every possible relevent setting in my Init String. No change. I Don't think the problem is on my end since I have no problems calling anyone else. I can still connect at 2161 without problems. I did have one problem with the 9600 modems previously, but it is now solved. I was unable to do Z-modem downloads of zip files (ascii files worked fine) until I realized that the Miami 9600 modems usually connect with a MNP-5 connection and MNP-5 + zip files (compressing compressed files) is a no go situation.
