Shared File System (SFS) Disk Space To Become the Default when FTP'ing
to VM/CMS

On Thursday, 1 September, clients using the 'FTP' facility to transfer
files to an IBM VM/CMS mainframe account will connect to the account
'root directory' on shared file system (SFS) disk space if that
account has SFS space allocated. 'FTP' is available on networked
personal computers as well as central multi-user systems such as
VM/CMS and OpenVMS. This service required use of a special port
number during the spring and summer test period. Use of the port
number will no longer be necessary since the 'FTP' command will
connect to SFS space by default. The change is now necessary to
accommodate file transfer to accounts with SFS disk space allocations
exclusively. CLIENTS WITH NO SFS SPACE ALLOCATION WILL NOTICE NO
DIFFERENCE IN FTP SERVICES.
