Miami Computing & Information Services (MCIS) announces that its
IBM RS/6000 AIX system, Rose, will be unavailable Friday morning,
7 July 1995, from 5-9am for necessary system maintenance.
 
     Rose provides several central services which will be unavailable during
this time, including:
 
     *  NetNews  As the University's Network News Transfer Protocol (NNTP)
                 server (NNTP.MUOhio.Edu), Rose supplies NNTP access to
                 USENET NetNews for the centrally managed, multi-user
                 systems MiamiU (IBM VM/CMS) and MiaVX1 (Digital OpenVMS in
                 Oxford), as well as for various systems and desktop NNTP
                 clients on the Hamilton, Middletown and Oxford campuses.
 
                 While Rose is unavailable, NetNews via NNTP will also be
                 unavailable.
 
     *  ph       As the University's PHonebook server (PH.MUOhio.Edu),
                 Rose enables access to the electronic directory, and
                 performs redirection of all inbound electronic mail to
                 [log in to unmask] addresses.
 
                 While Rose is unavailable, directory service will also be
                 unavailable and inbound e-mail will be queued for processing
                 as soon as Rose returns to service.
 
     MCIS regrets any inconvenience this interruption in service may cause.
