Miami's Network News Transfer Protocol (NNTP) server has not been receiving its regular NetNews newsfeed from OARnet since sometime Friday, 1 March, or (more likely) Saturday morning, 2 March 1996. MCIS Client Services and MCIS Technical Support have just corrected this situation (as of 9:35am Monday, 4 March) and OARnet has verified that their news server is once again able to connect to Miami's and deliver NetNews. This temporary NetNews service outage was likely the result of an emergency reboot of the MCIS IBM RS/6000 AIX system (Rose.MUOhio.Edu, a/k/a NNTP.MUOhio.Edu) which had to be performed Saturday morning while diagnosing Domain Name Service (DNS) problems while Miami's primary DNS server (MUSrv.MUOhio.Edu) was down. MCIS regrets any inconvenience this situation may have caused our clients. -- John B Harlan Campus Wide Information Systems (CWIS) Coordinator Miami University 137 Hoyt Hall Oxford, Ohio 45056-1618 USA http://WWW.MUOhio.Edu/~CoorCWIS/ (513) 529-5330 voice (513) 529-1496 fax [log in to unmask]
