Dear Ed et al
OK - just read it for information. It seems like people on the list toss
around terms like 'performance grammar' and the rest of us mortals don't
necessarily understand what is meant. I feel that this book is a nice
introduction. I am not offended or intimidated. I also thinks teachers need
a basic grounding in usable and understandable grammar.
I also feel that when students finish my class, they can identify, for
example, nouns. I don't try to introduce them to more than school of
thought. However, I think that at some schools, teachers are asked to
introduce various grammatical approaches in courses called 'Modern Grammar'
or whatever.
