I can only add my agreement to this.  I also have a wry sense that on this
list we are "preaching to one another's choirs." 

Still - I think our love of learning positively impacts students, and while
I admit that not everyone will enjoy manipulating units of language in the
same ways we do, at the very least the passion we have will show.  I tend to
get my students laughing with me at my "language geek" tendencies, which
then makes them feel more relaxed when I start in with meaning and how
moving a comma can really change the world.
