Hi there Brad Layton! Welcome to the listserve and, I assume to ATEG! If you're not a member, I encourage you to join - particularly as you will receive as part of your membership a copy of our the latest (and, as a new editor, I'd like to add "greatest") issue of the ATEG Journal. The membership form is available on the website (ateg.org), but unfortunately it isn't interactive, so you have to print it out and mail it to our president, Amy Benjamin (somebody pointed out that the correct PO Box is "92" not "80") What is your background - interests, etc. Also, if you happen to find yourself in the Washington, DC neighborhood this Friday, drop by Prince George's Community College for the 22nd annual ATEG conference (details on the website - http://ateg.org/conferences/c22.php).

Hello Geoff,

I am new to the ATEG Listserv, and your e-mail was only the third I have received. I was pleasantly surprised to see it addressed to someone named "Brad" and sent from someone named "Layton!" :) So ... I couldn't resist saying a quick hello.

I'm looking forward to reading and learning from the dialogue.

Best,

Brad Layton

Lubbock, Texas

Brad,

When I read this, I immediately thought of you (as I do whenever I run into the past perfect)

As it happens, a team of animal behaviorists led by Jenny Ryon at Dalhousie
University had explored this very question of canine's penchant for perfume in 1986. Their study
wasn't with dogs—to the best of my knowledge, no controlled studies on
scent-rubbing with domesticated dogs have ever been done—but with a very close
relative instead: the wolf (Canis lupus).

Any comments?
