We need all the help we can get:
Yesterday's book section of the Seattle Times carries a review of "Dreamers
of the Day," a new novel by Mary Doria Russell. The novel's narrator is
named Agnes Shanklin. The review quotes an author's note as follows:
"The narrator's name honors the memory of a woman who taught freshman
English students to diagram sentences at Glenbard East High School in
Lombard, Ill, in the 1960's. I know almost nothing about the real Agnes
Shanklin, who died many years ago, but the laid the foundations for
everything I have written since 1965."
