I am from southwestern Ohio and my husband is from northeastern Ky.  We have always said "A whole 'nother thing" and still do.  I never knew there was any other way to state that phrase except "a whole different thing," perhaps.  "Another whole thing" sounds totally backwards to me!  I love regionalisms!
