Hello All...Three news items. Please read
Special Education Majors Graduating in December 2006:
Please be sure you print and read your DAR report ASAP to be sure
everything is in order for graduation.
If you have any issues, please contact me right away.
All Majors and Other Interested Parties:
Members of Dr. McMahon-Klosterman's disability studies class are
planning two public actions to bring attention to issues of
accessibility on campus.
On November 7, students will be at Irvin Hall and on November 8 they
will be at Upham Hall.
Volunteers will be in pairs at each non-accessible door, politely
asking people to use the accessible door. The effort needs two
volunteers per door per hour, so the group is seeking additional volunteers.
Volunteers will be provided training and a CD of empowering music.
If you are interested in participating in this campus wide awareness
action, please e-mail [log in to unmask]
Volunteers to the Urban Cohort Needed:
Dr. Ray Terrell from our own Education & Allied Professions Division
is actively working with a committee to develop ways to encourage
more urban minority students to attend Miami University, in
particular to become a teacher. He is collaborating with Teacher
Academies in local high schools that prepare high school students to
enter the teaching profession. Some of these students are especially
interested in special education. They will come to Miami in the
spring for an overnight visit. If you are interested in being a
"buddy" to one student in the group, meaning you would come to dinner
or engage in some activity with them within a group to help them get
to know what Miami is like, please send me an e-mail. I will let you
know dates at a later time.
Thanks everyone, MKE
