Some important notes and dates are presented below:



FALL STUDENT TEACHING APPLICATIONS FOR SPECIAL EDUCATION
If you have a major or minor in special education with licensure you
need to turn your fall 2004 student teaching applications into me by
Thursday, January 29. Applications may be picked up in the Field
Placement Office.  Please note the following:
  **Be sure to have six copies of a one page sheet with
your biography on one side and your autobiographical essay on
another. These are the one page that will represent you to your
student teaching supervising teacher and building administrator so
take care in the preparation. Be creative with font size and such to
make each fit on one page so a single sheet of paper will contain
both your biography and essay.
**Turn in to Patty Swanson in 161 McGuffey Hall or Tom Southern in
156 McGuffey the packet with the application, six copies of your one
page biography/essay, and your
DARS.
**If you have compelling reasons to request a geographic area, make a
note.  However you should realize that the limitations in the number
and type of placement may not allow the Field Placement Office to be
able to meet your request.
**Make sure to include the sheet outlining your
practicum experiences that can be picked up at the field placement office.

PRAXIS PREP
If you are taking the Praxis Exam March 6, and would like a refresher
course on the special education core principles be advised there will
two sessions offered, February 23 and February 24th at 5:00.  Please
email me with your intention to attend one of the sessions so that we
can make room and materials arrangements.


MAJOR APPLICATIONS
A reminder that the application to become a special education major
will available February  1 and will be due March 1. If you are in the
early childhood field block this semester or were in last semester,
or if you wish to major in specialties unrelated to early childhood
and will take the middle childhood pedagogy, you will need to apply
by March 1. Yearly, we are able to accept 17 early childhood pedagogy
and 20 middle childhood pedagogy students. If you have questions,
please stop by to see Patty Swanson in Room 161 McGuffey.

MORE ABOUT READING REQUIREMENTS
We will be offering a graduate level class this summer to assist
persons who might need 3 more hours to complete the state reading
requirement.  If you are a recent graduate or a current graduate
student, contact me to review your status.  Call at 513 529 6634.
This summer is the one and only time this fix will be offered.  We
need to ascertain numbers so that we can make arrangements.
Please do not confuse the reading requirement and a reading
endorsement.  Effective in 2002, all early, middle, and intervention
licenses require a 12-semester hour set of courses in reading, 3 of
which must be phonics.


SNAFUs
Inevitably, the beginning of a semester results in some pockets of
confusion and/or mix-ups. If you are having a problem with a course
or other issue, please stop by early during this week. Patty
Swanson's schedule is posted on her door and I will definitely be in
or close by the EDP office on through this week.
