Subject: Announcement for SpedNet

Dear Students,

Student Council for Exceptional Children (SCEC) is our local chapter of a professional organization that is open to anyone with an interest in children with exceptionalities. The Council for Exceptional Children addresses all exceptionalities, including giftedness and communication disorders. As a member of this group, you have access to professional development opportunities such as conferences, journals, and newsletters. As a member of our local chapter, you have an opportunity to expand your resume by taking on an active leadership role as well as a chance to help you and your fellow students become more knowledgeable about people with exceptionalities.

As you know, SCEC has had immense success this year, culminating in our trip to Boston to the national conference where one of our members presented a research project. However, most of our active members are seniors, and we need a new group to hit the ground running. Next year we hope to go to Seattle, and we have lots of ideas to get started with fundraising. Please email us if you are interested in contributing! This is not a commitment to become an officer, it is simply to let us know who is interested in participation in SCEC for next year.

We would love to hear your ideas for activities for the group as well. What topics would you like to learn more about? What kind of activities would you like to see with the group? Some possibilities include social events with the UC SCEC chapter, speakers on topics of interest, movie nights, etc.
Hope to hear from you all soon. Have a great summer! Sincerely, Dr. Cole ([log in to unmask]) & Dr. Leah ([log in to unmask])
