Good Afternoon,

Does anyone know the full titles (with a source) for the Daughter of
Temperance officers? The following is from the Temperance Banner, June
9, 1849:

"Applicants to open new unions must be signed by at least eleven
persons, who must be ladies of good reputation and standing in the
community. The undersigned inhabtants of ______, believing the Order of
the Daughters of Temperance to be well calculated to extend the
blessings of total abstinence, and promote the general welfare of
mankind, respectfully petition the Grand Union of the State of Maryland
to grant them a charter to open a new Union, to be called ______ Union,
No.______, Daughters of Temperance, to be located in ______, and under
your jurisdiction. We pledge ourselves, individually and collectively,
to be governed by the rules and usages of said Grand Union. Enclosed is
the charter fee, $5. It must be stated whether the applicants are
members of the Order or not, if they are, of what Union, directed, free
of postage, to the Grand Sister Scribe," Temperance Banner, June 9,
1849. The following women served as officers of Baltimore's Daughters of
Temperance: Mrs. Eliza Stewart, G.P.S., Mrs. Mary Boker, G.S.A., Mrs. A.
Remmington, G.S.S., Mrs. Ella Young, G.S.T., Mrs. Ann B. Ely, G.S.C.,
and Mrs. Mary Hampstead, G.S. G. Of these six, only Mary Boker, is as
yet identified.

Many thanks,

Pat Anderson
